The home of Alan Reed on the web

LATEST NEWS

The Coronavirus outbreak has upended everyone's plans for the foreseeable.  That includes us.
I'm currently in the process of leaving my dayjob as a senior producer in BBC News, and am planning a move back to Scotland in the New Year.  That  - and the limitations of working from home - have meant that completing the album just hasn't been a priority for me.  To be honest, I've just not had the motivation; Everyone is dealing with this in their own way, and for me that means I've hardly picked up a guitar or sung for several months.

'First World Problems Redux' I hear you're thinking.  And you're right.  In the larger scale of things whether I finish or release an album is unlikely to change the world.  But I know I'll be back on it soon enough - and I'll let you know when I am.

However, I am convinced that 'Grey Sky Thinking' will be my best work so far.  Some of the songs have already appeared as part of the live set, and I can't wait for you to hear how they've developed from those early versions.

Currently all our live plans are also on hold - with one notable exception - Prog in the Park 2 in Dunfermline.

Kevin O'Neill (the man behind it) and I spoke at length about how best to proceed when the festival was unavoidably cancelled - first once, then twice.

Kevin's not the sort of man who's easily dissuaded once he's made his mind up about something.  So I'm glad to say that PITP 2 WILL go ahead next April.  The bill has changed a little, and I'm glad to say we'll now be joined by old friends, Pendragon.

So book your tickets now (@ www.proginthepark.com ) and we'll see you in Dunfermline, bright and bushy tailed, on Saturday, 2nd April, 2022.

For those starved of 'new' music, I'm afraid I haven't got much I can share with you right now.

However, Rob Reed and I did release a video of a one-night-only voice and piano version of 'Sanctuary' that we played together at Magenta's annual 'friends and family' gig outside Cardiff.  You can watch the video on youtube, or download the track on a 'pay what you want' basis from Bandcamp. There's also a second mix where Rob has added some subtle orchestration.  And very classy sounding it is too!

You can get it here: https://magenta.bandcamp.com/album/alan-reed-rob-reed-sanctuary-live
