The home of Alan Reed on the web

LATEST NEWS

I've now moved back to Scotland and am in a transitional state as I sell my home in the SE of England and find somehwere to buy up here.  I've now also formally left the BBC and have become a freelance producer/writer/lecturer for hire.  Followers of my various social media accounts will realise I'm actually busier than ever.  Music has, I'm afraid, been placed on the backburner a bit while I sort myself out.

That said, I managed a short, acoustic support slot at the Glasgow O2 Academy opening for Rick Wakeman at the beginning of April.  I've also agreed to appear at PBX4 (The Prog Before Xmas) on the 26th of November - also in Glasgow.  See above for details.

I'm also hoping to have news of a first appearance with the Daughters of Expediency at Prog in the Park soon.  Watch this space.

However, I am convinced that 'Grey Sky Thinking' will be my best work so far.  Some of the songs have already appeared as part of the live set, and I can't wait for you to hear how they've developed from those early versions.

But this is all relatively small stuff when you put it into the context of what's going on in the wider world.
The war in Ukraine has forced us all to confront the fragility of the peace we've taken for granted in Western Europe since the end of the Cold War.

I'm glad to say that both myself and my former colleagues in Pallas have managed to put our differences aside to add our support to the appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee to help those affected by the war in Ukraine.  We have released a reworked live video of 'Beat The Drum' to encourage everyon to donate what they can.

REMEMBER: WATCH: SHARE: DONATE

Currently all live plans are on hold.  The one notable exception was due to be Prog in the Park 2 in Dunfermline.

Unfortunately, Kevin O'Neill, (the man behind it) died unexpectedly a short time ago.

It was a horrible shock to Kevin's close family and friends - and all of us who'd got to know him so well over the past couple of years.  In the circumstances it seemed appropriate to at least postpone the festival while his family dealt with the more pressing matters that losing someone close brings.

However, I'm hearing that the festival may now go ahead early in April 2023.  We've not yet been approached to play, but I'm sure I speak for the whole band when I say that it'll have our full support regardless.

Let's hope we can all give Kevin the send-off he deserves.

For those starved of 'new' music, I'm afraid I haven't got much I can share with you right now.

However, Rob Reed and I did release a video of a one-night-only voice and piano version of 'Sanctuary' that we played together at Magenta's annual 'friends and family' gig outside Cardiff.  You can watch the video on youtube, or download the track on a 'pay what you want' basis from Bandcamp. There's also a second mix where Rob has added some subtle orchestration.  And very classy sounding it is too!

You can get it here: https://magenta.bandcamp.com/album/alan-reed-rob-reed-sanctuary-live
